Aviv Noam Quartet
Wednesday, June 23, 2021 - BIMHUIS
Their music is a celebration of the variant states of life; please meet the winner of the Dutch Jazz Competition 2020, Aviv Noam Quartet.
Speak with the Aviv Noam Quartet about their compositions and they are likely to bring up terms like ‘humor’, ‘intimacy’ and ‘organized chaos’. Aviv Noam is the founder of the band, but all four musicians compose, arrange and shape the music as a collective. The band states that their main musical ideas can be traced back to the giants of the avant-garde jazz of the ’50s & ’60s. Alongside that, you will hear other modern jazz influences next to classical music, Israeli and Indian/Carnatic music & rhythms.
As students of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, the four members started playing together in 2018. After receiving the Incentive Award in the Keep an Eye International Jazz Award competition (2019), the pandemic stopped the Aviv Noam Quartet in its tracks. They recorded their debut album in the beginning of 2020, only to release it in January 2021. Didn’t feel completely right, for an official release needed a proper concert to celebrate the fact. May this inJazz showcase be the real start of their journey!
