Doppler Trio

They may have been living apart together for almost a year, but they are one hell of an addition to inJazz 2021: Doppler Trio!
With their performance at inJazz 2019 and their debut album Nebula of the same year, Dutch-German Doppler Trio received much critical acclaim. Fully geared up they planned to record their second album early in 2020, and then the pandemic hit. When the recording finally came about, the trio’s frustration of not playing together for a long time brought unexpected energy to the studio. Archean was released in 2021 by German label BERTHOLD records. With the help of crowdfunding, Doppler Trio managed to set up high profile, interactive livestreams through Twitch. They incorporated visuals with their live presentation, all along the scientific themes that inspire their music.
The trio first met at the Arnhem Conservatory. Daniël van der Duim (piano), Floris-Jan van den Berg (double bass), and Hendrik Eichler (drums) were all in the same year and played in an Afro-beat band together. They actually wanted to start a jazz trio, as they shared a vision of the kind of music they wanted to make. On their website, they describe this as ‘atmospheric, narrative improvisations, combined with modern rhythmical songs’. Expect the unexpected with Doppler Trio!
