Young-Woo Lee Quartet
Friday, June 26, 2020 - BIMHUIS
The Young-Woo Lee quartet brings together four musicians from Portugal, Korea and the Netherlands. Although they met at the jazz department of the Conservatory of Amsterdam, their background spans from classical music to gospel.
Pianist Young-Woo Lee was influenced by 20th century harmonies of composers such as Olivier Messiaen and by the complex rhythmic ideas and electronic sounds from contemporary jazz and improvised music. As a contrast to the complexity, he strives for melodies you could sing.
“After experimenting with electronic sounds, I’ve been composing with Logic which helps me to writing simple sounds and singable melodies. My future plans? I’d like to explore many other music scenes based in Europe and I’d like to bring the band to South Korea, which is one of my bigger goals.”
